THE Rugby Cranes will have an axe to grind when they host Sables of Zimbabwe in the Tri-Nations tournament at Kampala Club on Saturday.

The Sables inflicted a 40-0 humiliation on the Uganda national team in Harare in 2003 in a Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) qualifier.

Team captain Mathias Ochwo is optimistic victory is for the Cranes.
“We don’t want to know the history. We are out to prove that we lifted the Africa Cup on merit and we are determined not only to win this game but to lift the Victoria Cup and Elgon Cup as well,” Ochwo stated.

National rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa is full of confidence in the current Cranes squad and is optimistic they will emerge victors.

“It was our first CAR tournament in 2003. But we have since come of age and I am sure we shall win,” Kasasa, who was then coach stated.

The two sides have met on four occasions, each winning twice.
This leaves the tally to two wins and two loses for each side.

Timothy Mudoola, Victor Wadia and Ronald Adigas will be playing against familiar opposition as they were part of the 2003 squad in Harare.

Former team captain John Musoke, Paul Kabazzi and centre Scot Oluoch, will miss the tie for various reasons.
The Rugby Cranes is sponsored by the Vision Group, UAP Insurance, Nile Breweries and G4S.
