UGANDA People’s Congress (UPC)stalwart Yona Kanyomozi wants to become the first MP for the newly-created Ntungamo municipality. Kanyomozi, a former UPC national chairman, says he wants to raise the profile of UPC in the area.

Kanyomozi was the minister of cooperatives and marketing and MP for Bushenyi South during the Obote II regime in the 1980s. He also represented Kajara county in the National Resistance Council from 1989 to 1996.

The Ntungamo district UPC chairman, Asanasio Kaisho Ruzibiza, says they have started grassroot campaigns to enable their man win.

Kanyomozi will be challenged by his namesake, Yona Musinguzi-Bikwatsizehi, who wants to run on the NRM ticket. He says he decided to stand due to public demand.

Musinguzi is the secretary for works in Kampala City Council and a councillor representing Nakawa Division. Ntungamo municipality was carved out of Ruhama constituency.

The youthful Musinguzi has a master’s degree in business administration and a Bachelors in food science and technology. He promises income-generating activities for the unemployed, energetic young men and women.
Another aspirant from the NRM party is Hannington Musasizi-Kanyate, who is already canvassing votes.

Musasizi is a fresh graduate from Ndejje University with a first class degree in Public Administration.
