THE car lubrication industry in Uganda has grown although many drivers cannot identify genuine lubricants.
Oil, grease, automatic transmission and brake fluid are some of the lubricants. Paul Nsanda, a manager at Walusimbi’s Garage, says drivers should be educated on the types of lubricants suitable for their vehicles.
“For example, Lubia S40 is for diesel cars but some people put it in petrol cars. This is dangerous to petrol cars,†he says.
He adds that Quartz 5000 is the best for petrol cars. It can cover over 5,000kms without need for servicing. Nsanda says genuine lubricants have two seals permanently attached to the cans.
Buyers should guard against adulterated oil by ensuring that the seals are not tampered with. Nsanda adds that drivers should have knowledge of different lubrication products and how they operate.
He says vehicle or machine servicing should depend on the mileage or distance covered.
David Kasumba of Solar Lubricants, the makers of Express petrol engine oil, Express diesel engine oil, and express 2T motorcycle engine oil, says driver and user education is very important.
He says it will increase awareness which will enable drivers identify fake oil.
