<b>Almon leads Lira schools run</b> <br>ATHLETICS - The Almon College School collected 289 points for both boys and girls in the Lira Municipal Post Primary Schools athletics championships held at Lango College on June 25.

ATHLETICS - The Almon College School collected 289 points for both boys and girls in the Lira Municipal Post Primary Schools athletics championships held at Lango College on June 25. Defending championship New Generations SS took the second position handing 285 while Royal Academy managed third position with 190 points. Rhacele finished fourth followed by hosts Lango College.

Two injured in Ghana victory

SOCCER - Two teenagers were rushed to hospital in critical condition after they were involved in an accident as they celebrated Ghana’s win in a World Cup match against the US on Saturday night. Francis Okiring and Ayoub Webisa decided to ride on a motorcycle at break-neck speed to join other fans who were also celebrating, before crashing into a tree. One of them sustained a broken arm and leg and they are currently admitted at Bugiri Main Hospital in critical condition.

Bul FC held

SOCCER - Bul FC of Jinja were held to a goalless draw by newcomers Busembatya TC in the Zone 10 mini-league at Bugobi PS playground. Bul striker Fred Omoding kicked wide after his side was awarded a penalty by refereeYusuf Suleiman.

Seventeen for schools meet

SOCCER - Seventeen primary school soccer teams from across the country have confirmed participation in this year’s national Coca-Cola tournament that kicks off in Gulu tomorrow. Organising secretary, David Katabira confirmed that 17, including the two host teams, Negri PS and Gulu Public had registered by 2:30pm.The secretariat said 20 teams were expected in the event.

SOCCER - Issa Matovu scored thrice as home boys Bugobi FC beat Bulumba of Kaliro 7-0 in the Zone Ten mini league at Bugobi PS playground. Matovu scored in the 7th,24th and 44th minutes to give his side an easy win against the visitors. Edward Serukuma later scored in the 58th minute before Samuel Yakuti added a brace for in the 80th and 89th minute to seal the goal spree.

SOCCER - East Africa Cup which is aimed at empowering the youth through sport has ended in Moshi Tanzania. The tournament attracted 64 teams from Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwnada and Zambia. Rwanda’s Association Mwana Ukundwa emerged winners of the under 13 girls after defeating Uganda’s CHRISC Kampala 1-0. Uganda’s Chrisc Ndejje under 16 boys lost 3 -2 on penalties to Super Mary from Dar.
