MARTIN Nyakuwa beat over 1000 runners to easily emerge winner of the 10km Breast Cancer Awareness run at Kololo Airstrip, Michael Nsubuga reports.
Gabriel Mukiibi finished second while Godfrey Kachope was third. Adilani Bagalaaliwo was the first lady finisher in a race that attracted 13000 runners and raised sh13m.
Dasani mineral water paid sh10,000 for every participant that included individuals and corporate companies. The feat had Nyakuwa and Bagalaaliwo winning themselves annual membership at the Kabira Country Club gym while Mukiibi and Kachope won a stationery exercise bike and a mountain bike respectively.
Health minister Steven Malinga, who officiated, gave tips to the youth about the benefits of getting married and having children early enough. He cautioned about breast cancer which he said was on the rise among men and women.
“Men you have the responsibility to examine your wives’ breasts every night especially before and after menstruation in order to detect symptoms of breast cancer. Early detection is the key to treatment,†Malinga advised.
