A 17-YEAR-OLD boy, who reportedly picked a gun from a garbage heap in Kampala, has been arrested. The teenager, said to be a street child, is being held at Jinja Road Police Station after he allegedly tried to hand over the weapon to a guard on Sunday.

Sources said the boy picked the gun from a garbage heap in Bugolobi as he was looking for scrap metal. “He hid it in a bush but was restless and decided to hand it over to the authorities,” the source said.

The boy had reportedly seen guards with similar guns and thought it belonged to them.

On Sunday, he reportedly walked to Mbuya where he saw a guard holding a similar gun. Apparently, his plan was to hand it over to him.

However, the guard, only identified as Tony, mistook the boy for a robber. “The boy dropped the gun and took off but he stopped when Tony shot in the air,” a source said.

Tony apprehended the boy before the Police picked him and recovered the gun that had four bullets.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested a man who allegedly conned a pharmacist of sh8m in a ball-bearing fraud.

Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi said Haruna Lubega allegedly told the pharmacist that the bearings sold well in western Uganda where companies are exploring for oil.
