A sell-out crowd at Kyadondo this Saturday will certainly inspire the Rugby Cranes in the Elgon/Victoria Cup tie against Kenya as 25% of the proceeds will go to the team if they win.

Local rugby governing body URU chairman William Blick has offered the Cranes 25% of the day’s gate-collection if they win the match.

“It’s a winning bonus to motivate our team that has shown great commitment to national duty. They will still get their other allowances,” Blick remarked.

Two weeks ago Cranes earned 25% (sh2.2m) of the sh9m collected from the Zimbabwe tie which Uganda won 24-15.

“I have a lot of confidence in the players and management of the team. I hope we will win by a huge margin and go on to take both the Elgon and Victoria encounters. I appeal to fans to play their part by turning up in big numbers to support the Cranes,” Blick stated.

In a bid to give value for money to the sponsors and expose the Cranes, the match will be recorded by SuperSport. It will be televised next week.

Cranes coach Ham Onsando has a full strength squad to pick from as Uganda seeks to end the Elgon Cup jinx against Kenya.

The Elgon Cup was merged with the tri-nations Victoria Cup featuring neighbours Uganda, Kenya and Zimbabwe.

The Victoria Cup home and away ties between Uganda and Kenya count toward the Elgon Cup as well.

The match is sponsored by Nile Special, UAP Insurance, Western Union, G4S and The New Vision.
