UGANDA Broadcasting Television (UBC) TV viewers who have been following the soccer World Cup action live from South Africa in the comfort of their homes, will have to look for alternative means.
The fans are in the dark after erratic Umeme electricity supply blew up vital power components of the TV transmitter.
A source told that the transmitter, located on Buwalasi hill in Sironko district, stopped functioning after Argentina’s 3-1 victory over Mexico in the 16-round match on Sunday.
The transmitter, installed in 1989, is the only state run UBC TV facility that serves a large part of eastern Uganda.
The source said engineers from UBC head office in Kampala are due in Mbale to assess the damage and provide solutions.
