AFTER emerging Uganda Super League champions, Bunamwaya now want to scale even greater heights. The Wakiso side, which won the top league after only four seasons in the competition, has embarked on a series of changes to boost standards as they prepare for the continental scene.

The title is a ticket for the side to represent Uganda in the 2011 CAF Club Champions League.

Club secretary Haruna Kyobe said streamlining starts with registration of club members and the election of an executive.

“That’s all aimed at being adequately prepared for what should be a tough continental schedule,” explained Kyobe after his club attained an unassailable 74 points.

Bunamwaya’s closest challengers Express lost 1-0 to KCC on Saturday to remain at 69 despite having played 33 matches like the new champions.

Kyobe also revealed that the club plans to change its home ground from Nakivubo to St. Mary’s Kitende. They have used Nakivubo since being promoted to the top flight in 2006.

The Kitende ground where the team trains has however been fully refurbished to meet FUFA standards. “There surely can’t be a better choice for a home ground than Kitende,” argued Kyobe.

“We are going to change our strategy to make the club more relevant to the people by taking our home ground close to Bunamwaya.”

He added that elections for the club executive are due in the offseason. “This will mark the start of the fundraising drive as we also start searching for corporate sponsorship,” said Kyobe.

Corporate sponsorship is one of the strategies the club plans to undertake to ease the burden of representation on the continental scene.

Kyobe says they are on the right path of corporate growth. “What we need is to create a brand and sponsors will come. Winning the league has helped us at least to start creating that brand.”

r Hosts Victors drew with Masaka yesterday to qualify for the Kakungulu Cup final. Hussein Kato gave the visitors a 19th minute lead but Victors’ skipper Fred Muhumuza cancelled the lead shortly afterwards. A bleeding Muhumuza was however later rushed to hospital after being injured in a head collision by Sowed Senkaayi.

Victors will meet the winner between Simba and Police, who play today and the return leg on Friday, in the cup final.
