Amama to reconcile warring NRM leaders

THE security minister, Amama Mbabazi, has pledged to mediate between Kibuku county MP Kamba Saleh and the water state minister, Jeniffer Namuyangu, in the run-up to next year’s general elections.

THE security minister, Amama Mbabazi, has pledged to mediate between Kibuku county MP Kamba Saleh and the water state minister, Jeniffer Namuyangu, in the run-up to next year’s general elections.
Speaking last week during the inauguration of Kibuku district at the town council, Mbabazi observed that both politicians were a big asset to the NRM and their constituents.
“I hope I can discuss with both parties so that all our big fish are retained in the next Parliament. Kamba and Namuyangu are good leaders. Kamba is among those we entrust with daunting tasks and have no doubt that he will accomplish them,†Mbabazi said.
The new Kibuku district, which comprises the sub-counties of Bulangira, Kibuku, Tirinyi, Kirika, Kadama, Buseta and Kagomu, was curved out of Pallisa district.
Namuyangu, who is also the Pallisa Woman MP, defied appeals from Bagwere elders and NRM leaders to contest as Kibuku woman MP instead of taking on Kamba in the coming elections. This has split the party supporters in the district.
In September last year, she wrote a letter to the internal affairs state minister, Matia Kasaija, accusing Kamba of recruiting rebels, comprised of armed UPDF deserters and officers, to distabilise next year’s elections. Kamba filed a defamation suit against Namuyangu that court is yet to decide on.
Namuyangu’s absence at the inaugural ceremony drew concern and speculation. While Mbabazi laboured to explain that Namuyangu had genuine reasons for not attending the ceremony, the crowd yelled to the contrary.
The New Vision could not get a comment from Namuyangu.
