ARUA - Two female passengers died, while others were seriously injured on Monday when their truck overturned. The West Nile regional Police spokesperson, Phillip Mukasa, identified the dead as Maimuna Muhammad, 45, and Maria Matilda, 41, both of Ocodri trading centre. Muhammad died instantly, while Matilda died at Arua Hospital. The Police are searching for the driver who fled from the scene of the accident.

UPC members defect to NRM

KOLE - About 430 supporters of the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) in Alito sub-county on Saturday defected to the ruling National Resistance Movement. The defectors handed over their party shirts, badges and cards to the disaster preparedness state minister, Musa Ecweru. He welcomed the defectors, saying the NRM was the only party that could develop the country.

Youth train to fight crime

APAC - Over 500 youth are undergoing a one-month training in crime prevention. The district Police commander, Samuel Mission, said the training would enable the youth help the Police fight crime in the area. Speaking at Awilo Primary School in Akokoro sub-county on Sunday, Mission said the trainees, who were drawn from Akokoro and Ibuje sub-counties, would also get skills in the implementation of government programmes.

Wildlife body to boost tourism

GULU - The Wildlife Conservation Society has contracted Image Consult to research and establish potential tourism sites in northern Uganda, the regional manager, Santo Ojara, said. He said the sites will be promoted to generate income for the local government.
