MY name is Dora. I am a salesperson with a beer company. I spend a lot of time around bars and fast food joints. I had to fit in with my clients and eating with them was a big deal, but what I ate was never healthy.

I feasted on meat, and lots of it.
I had heard about the dangers of eating red meat including gout, but I thought it was a disease for the elderly, so I ate my meat with no remorse. It tasted so good and I often told off those who warned me against it.

At the age of 29, I woke up one morning, with pain in one of my big toes. It was swollen and had I been drunk the day before, I could have sworn that I had slipped and fallen.

But on recollecting the previous day’s events, I remembered I had been sober and had had no accident. So I had no idea where this excruciating pain came from. I could not walk because the pain was unbearable.

My foot was hot and the pain was constant. I limped all the way to my car and drove to the doctor. One look at my toe and the doctor said I had gout.

I am now off meat and on a strictly healthier diet of fresh fruit, vegetables, a lot of water, and prescribed drugs which are helping me manage the condition.
