Damalie Kisosonkole, the wife of Sir Edward Mutesa II, has died. Kisosonkole died on Monday morning at Nakasero Hospital after a long illness. She is the mother to Princess Dorothy Nassolo Kabonesa, an under-secretary in the Ministry of Health and Prince Henry Kalemeera, who works with an airline company in the UK. Damalie’s younger sister, Sarah Kisosonkole, is the mother of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi.
Since the death of her husband in 1969, Damalie has been living a quiet life in Rubaga, a Kampala suburb. She was bed-ridden for two years, according to Dick Kasolo, the Kabaka’s press secretary.
In his book, ‘Desecration of my Kingdom’, Mutesa said he met Damalie at King’s College Budo, where they were both students. The two were married on November 19, 1948.
Damalie was born in 1929 to Christopher Kisosonkole and Nassozi of Mukono.
