MASAKA - THE Irish Children’s Education Development Fund is constructing a sh432m vocational institution at Lwannunda village in Buwunga sub-county. Sylvia Katete Gavigan, the Honorary Consul of Uganda to Ireland, told Vision Voice FM the project would support the communities around the village and empower women start small businesses. She said at its completion, the institute would produce graduates with skills in making handicraft activities. The institute offers courses in brick-laying, tailoring, hairdressing, catering and computer studies.

Man held over defiling boy

GULU - The police are holding a 22-year-old casual labourer, Denis Komakech, on allegations of sexually abusing a 13-year-old boy and damaging his rectum. District CID officer Moses Byabagye said: “The boy is not well and we are waiting for reports from the doctors on his condition as we take Komakch to court.” Komakech is a wheelbarrow pusher at Cereleno market on the Gulu-Kampala highway. He will be charged with aggravated defilement.

Farmer facing murder charge

HOIMA - A 49-year-old man has been arrested on allegations of murdering his herdsman and dumping the body in a pit latrine. Merito Ssekandi of Nyabunyira in Kiziranfumbi sub-county, reportedly accused James Bataringaya of torching his tobacco store. District police commander Augustine Kasangaki said the murder took place a fortnight ago. He suspects Ssekandi beat Bataringaya to death after he found his store burnt, destroying tobacco leaves worth millions of shillings. The suspect fled the area after the incident but was arrested on Monday.
