Dyer should fly over to Rwanda for a better assessment

EDITOR—I would like to comment on Gwynne Dyer’s article, “Rwanda: Kagame’s dilemma”. Dyer has some good knowledge of global issues but in the article in question, he appears to be ignorant of what is happening Rwanda.

EDITOR—I would like to comment on Gwynne Dyer’s article, “Rwanda: Kagame’s dilemma”. Dyer has some good knowledge of global issues but in the article in question, he appears to be ignorant of what is happening Rwanda.

Dyer, who sees Africans in terms of ‘ethnic groups’ is terribly lost when he says that the army in Rwanda is exclusively Tutsi and more so the Government. Rwandese know very well that all groups are represented in the army and in the government.

In some government institutions, those that are described as marginalized by Dyer occupy the highest number of government offices. It is a secret only to Dyer that the Prime Minister, the Speaker of Parliament, generals and many other ministers are Hutu who are serving Rwanda’s cause. The reference of Nyiginya’s clan among generals is just laughable, even by people such as Kayumba Nyamwasa and many others who are not.

Dyer is simply copying the same rhetoric of genocide revisionists such as Paul Rusesabagina who predicted another genocide years back, today and in the future. Their wish to see Rwanda has only been analysed on paper despite the fact that they financially tried to support rebel groups from the Congo. Concerning murders, it is only the media in Western countries that have turned the unfortunate disappearance of a journalist as politically motivated.

The Police in Rwanda apprehended the culprits and some of them admitted to have committed the crime. The trial is going on. This is unfortunately not being captured by those who have made conclusions on the crime before the police.

Dyer should get out of that dilemma, fly over to Rwanda and grasp the dynamics in place without having as a reference some people who do have some political agenda that have hardly been achieved for past five years!
