FLAMBOYANT U-20 national soccer coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau is optimistic his boys will tame Egypt when they clash in the first round first leg Africa Youth Championship in Cairo on Sunday.

Just before announcing his final squad yesterday the usually jolly Anyau said that his team will play an attacking game and pick a result they will be able to defend in Kampala. The return leg will be played two weeks after the Cairo encounter. The winner over the two legs will meet either Morocco or Ivory Coast for the second round clash.

Anyau’s confidence stems from the fact that his players appeared to have mastered his short passes philosophy to counter the Egyptian style of football.

He is particularly upbeat with his midfield’s ability to hold the ball but the former Cranes assistant coach will need to instill vigilance in his strikers whose goal-scoring instincts constantly require awakening.

“Egyptians are tricky players but I know how they do it. We have trained in the same way so we should be able to counter them. Don’t expect an easy match in Cairo,” Anyau warned.

“I know they will depend on the crowds but remember the crowd does not kick the ball.”

Although Uganda will confront Egypt as the underdogs, Anyau boasts of having assembled the best team.

This should explain why the usually non-committal born-again spoke with so much confidence ahead of the clash. The team flew out to Cairo at 3am this morning aboard Egypt Air.

The teams are fighting for a slot in the finals of the Orange U-20 Africa Youth Championships due in Libya next year.

Meanwhile, Cranes will host Zambia’s Chipolopolo in Kampala on August 11 as part of preparations for the 2012 Africa Nations Cup qualifiers.
