Dear Doctor
I sweat too much and always get big patches under my armpits. This makes me so uncomfortable, so I wear a sweater to hide the patches. However, this only makes the condition worse. I have used many antiperspirants, but I still sweat a lot. What remedy can you recommend?
Janet

Dear Janet,
I understand the frustration you are going through, especially because you are a woman. Sweating is a natural process that helps the body to eliminate excess heat generated through metabolism.

Sweat comes out of the body through the sweat glands which are more concentrated in the armpits, thighs, palms and soles.

Excessive sweating is not a disease, although it can be a symptom of conditions such as diabetes and menopause.

In cases where it is a symptom, you would have to treat the cause.
Some people excessively sweat even under normal temperatures because they have a lot of fat.

Antiperspirants prevent bad odour and reduce sweat but may not eliminate the sweating because of their cosmetic nature. Antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride may be more effective when other antiperspirants have failed.

Try doing exercise in your free time so as to burn down the excess fat. You should also wear light clothing to allow air circulation and reduce the sweating.
Concentrate more on a high-fiber diet as you do away with the high cholesterol.
