Home remedies for rough hands
IT is not lady-like to have rough and dry hands. Elvis Barungi, a manicurist with Soft Touch Nail Parlour in Ntinda, says: “with a little effort you can make your hands soft”.

Below Barungi gives tips:
SOAP AND SUGAR
Squeeze liquid of soap into your palm.

Add sugar to make a gritty paste.

Rub all over your hands and cuticles to remove dead skin.

Rinse your hands.

Wet a pumice stone and scrub any calluses.

Apply a lotion.

LIME JUICE, OLIVE OIL AND SUGAR
Sugar exfoliates the skin, while lime juice softens it.

Rub your hands with a paste of sugar and olive oil for a minute, then wash it off.

Soak your hands in hot water with apple vinegar for few minutes. Dry the hands without a towel and apply vaseline or lotion.

STARCH AND WATER
In a bowl, mix cornstarch with warm water.

Soak your hands in the mixture for 5 minutes.

For effective results, Barungi advises one to use the remedies before bedtime.

Barungi also recommends moisturising the hands often by keeping a travel size moisturiser in your purse and using it regularly.

At night apply a lotion to your hands and wear cotton gloves. The gloves keep the lotion on the hands.

Norah Kusiima, another manicurist, advises to wear gloves especially when washing dishes because water and soap dry the hands.

She also avises using garden gloves for chores, like sweeping the compound, because wooden broom handles cause calluses.

Kusiima asserts that the hands are like the rest of the skin. They age faster when unprotected. To avoid wrinkles, Kusiima advises one applying sun block to the hands when they intending to spend a lot of time outdoors.
