MAKERERE University School of Public Health is conducting a survey on Tuberculosis (TB) in 65 villages of Busoga to determine vaccine effectiveness in children.
Arranged under Iganga/Mayuge Demographic Surveillance Site (DSS), the research involves 67,000 people.
Records showed that the BCG vaccine administered to toddlers shortly after birth had been ineffective in some instances.
A total of 29 health workers have been enrolled to attend to the children under study.
“We are constantly in touch with the offices in Iganga town. If a health problem develops, one simply makes a telephone call and the child is evacuated to the nearest health centre using the DSS ambulance,†said Zaituna Kasoga, a mother in Mayuge district.
