ENERGO PROJEKT, a Serbian road construction firm, will start paying for the hitherto free gravel it gets from Kageli quarry in Nakasongola district.

The Nakasongola chief administrative officer, Philemon Mubiru, said the firm had signed a purchase deal with the district and paid a sh40m commitment fee. It will also be paying for each truckful of gravel taken from the quarry.

This development comes after the district authorities led by the LC5 chairman, James Wandera, recently blocked the road leading to the quarry, bringing the rehabilitation works on the Kawempe-Kafu road to a halt.

Mubiru said the money would be shared between the district administration and Wabinyonyi sub-county where Kageli quarry is located.

He added that under the deal, Energo Projekt will also compensate residents and institutions for the damage caused to their buildings since it started work in the district.
