Chopping board
A chopping board is a must-have because most cooking activities rotate around it. It eases the chopping of foodstuffs like meat, fish, carrots, onions and vegetables.

Tips for using chopping boards
Clean it thoroughly after use. “Any time you cut with a blade, tiny grooves are left in the boards. The grooves can harbor bacteria,” Richard Ssenviri, a nutritionist says.

Chop raw and cooked foods separately to avoid contamination. Ssenviri says: “By cutting raw meat on a board and later using it for cooked meat, the bacteria from the raw meat is transferred to the cooked meat and can cause intestinal problems.” He advises chopping meats, poultry, fish and vegetables separately to avoid contamination.

Chopping boards, which are usually wooden or plastic, come in different sizes, colours and designs. Prices for chopping boards range from sh5,000 to sh40,000.
