RUBANDA West MP Henry Banyenzaki is battling three opponents to retain his seat. They are Bruce Balaba, Johnes Kanyeihamba and Herbert Ainamaani, all standing on the NRM ticket.

Henry Banyenzaki
He has represented the constituency twice.
Banyenzaki has been known to contribute to community projects like the construction of churches, mosques and schools.
He won the previous elections after he set up health units and a savings scheme. These two made him so popular that he was nicknamed ‘Ntunguuka’, which means development.
However, this time round, a number of factors seem to be working against him.
His savings scheme and health units collapsed. The health units, which were meant to bring services closer, were ruined by poor management.
Members of the savings scheme are demanding their deposits to be repaid with interest.
His critics say he has decampaigned the NRM government views, a factor that may cost him the support of the party’s loyalists.
But since Banyenzaki has the experience and established campaign teams, he might bounce back.

Bruce Balaba
He has been involved in youth politics.
From the time Balaba, 33, declared his interest in the seat, he has also been involved in community projects such as clearing feeder roads that were blocked by landslides. He has given books, mattresses and other scholastic materials to students.
He has also contributed to construction projects in churches and mosques. He has donated 100 bags of wheat seeds to farmers.
Balaba is eloquent in both English and Rukiga and a good mobiliser.
The main thrust of his campaign is to attract development projects to Rubanda West.
Balaba is the chairman of the convocation committee of Makerere University and a businessman. He has a degree in Social Sciences and a masters in public management from Makerere University.

Johnes Kanyeihamba
The 38-year-old is the senior assistant secretary in the Kabale district local government. He has been a sub-county chief in Kamwezi, Bubare and Hamurwa for more than five years.
Kanyeihamba’s greatest support comes from NRM bigwigs and the Catholic church.
Kanyeihamba has a degree in social sciences from Makerere University and is pursuing a masters in public administration.

Herbert Ainamani
He hails from Bufundi sub-county. He holds a degree in education and a masters in counselling psychology.
He has taught at Kabale Trinity College, he is the Operations Director of Juna Amagara Ministries and a lecturer at Bishop Stuart University.
Since all contestants are standing on the NRM ticket, the party’s flagbearer will be determined at the primaries.
