Last weekend, most universities swung their doors open to freshmen. The new students came in style partying throughout the weekend and all this week. Blitz’s Stella Nassuna visited their campuses and the clubs they patronised and brings you the story.
Shopping trends Kyambogo University opened its doors with a bazaar last week, a little earlier than MUBS and MUK that opened last Saturday. However, the student turn up was low compared to the previous bazaars.
“We used to make over sh2m a day, but now we can only make sh100.000,†one of the traders said. He blamed bad weather and the high security alert for the bad sales.
At MUBs, there was little action during the bazaar on the first and second days. The party, however, picked up as the week went along. At Makerere University, the story was very different. It was full house on day one of the bazaar.
Partying This is like the hottest time at the bazaars. Makerere University had the wildest party from Saturday to Sunday from 5:00pm until 10:00pm. Students danced the night away. By 10:00pm, the traders were wrapping up their stalls.
On Monday, the story was different. The muchomo stalls were up and steaming with hot tasty sausages, beef and liver. In Mitchell Hall’s liquor tent, bottle tops were popped open one after another. Just next was a video game tent with over four television sets that attracted a number of students.
At the west side of Mitchell, the cues hit hard against the pool balls to make a score in all the four pool tables present. At the east side a group of excited and tipsy students danced.
At 11:00pm, the party shifted to Club T1. There were taxis for students who wanted to follow the party to various clubs off campus.
The heat at Kyambogo Kyambogo was lively. The music was up on Monday, although by 10:00pm the traders were wrapping up their stalls. They blamed the early wrap up to security watch. Well, as the traders wrapped up, the students were just getting started with their party.
Just north of the bazaar ground stood four pool tables that swarmed with players and on-lookers. Just close to the pool section was the DJ point where all the music mixing took place. At the eastern point, the muchomo point was up and steaming with hot beef and sausages.
Up north was the videos game point where a good number of student frequented. Last weekend, most universities swung their doors open to freshmen. The new students came in style partying throughout the weekend and all this week. Blitz’s Stella Nassuna visited their campuses and the clubs they patronised and brings you the story.
On Tuesday, things got more interesting. At MUBS, there were a host of artistes performing. The party for all three campuses ended in Campus Nites at various night clubs in the city.
Fashion and style On all campuses, jeans ruled for both guys and ladies. The ladies, I must say, had a thing for skinny jeans. About 88% of the girls walked into the bazaar grounds dressed in their skinny jeans, leaving only about 5% in dresses and 7% in mini skirts.
