EDITOR: Our attention has been drawn to a letter published in The Sunday Vision of August 22 expressing concern over the ongoing works on Kampala-Mukono and Kampala-Kawempe roads.

The current maintenance works on these two roads consist of resealing with a single seal; repairing shoulders and spot rehabilitation of severely distressed areas. They also include patching; resealing the entire road with a new layer of tarmac.

The contractor started with patching and is now resealing. The shoulders will be worked on and raised to match with the new road pavement. The reason the road seems to look narrow now is because the shoulders have not yet been resealed and raised.

The resealing of Mukono-Jinja and Kawempe-Kafu sections will commence later this year. Kampala-Jinja road is only being resealed to keep it in good motorable condition while we design it for expansion.

The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) is currently responsible for the Kampala-Jinja road starting from the Spear Motors junction. The work is mostly done at night to ease traffic management.
