Vanilla
Vanilla is the most commonly grown spice in Uganda, followed by bird eye chillies and ginger.
Vanilla is a tropical orchid, which is cultivated for its pleasant flavour. It is Uganda’s only significant export to the US, taking about 50% of the crop, followed by Canada, UK, France and Germany. Uganda’s total vanilla exports represent only 1% of world vanilla exports. Uganda is the 11th vanilla exporter in the world.

Apple bananas
Uganda is one of the leading growers of apple bananas or ndiizi in the world, which are on high demand in Europe. While this presents a fantastic opportunity for Ugandan ndiizi growers, sales are limited by the high air freight, which makes them four times more expensive than Cavendish bananas from Colombia and Mexico.

Mangoes
There are different varieties of mangoes grown in Uganda. Some are suitable for the fresh fruit market while others are for juice and other products. Production has been increasing over the years with increasing demand on local and export markets.
