Balaki Kirya was not Obote's minister

EDITOR: Wanume Kibedi did well to point out that Mathias Ngobi, who was one of the five ministers arrested on February 23, 1966, is alive. The letter also stated that the other ministers were Grace Ibingira (RIP), Dr. Lumu, Balaki Kirya (RIP) and George Magezi (RIP).

However, I am not sure if Balaki Kirya was a cabinet minister. What is certain is that Cuthbert Obwangor, who was the minister for commerce, was one of those who were arrested, detained and only released when Idi Amin took over power on January 15, 1971.

Thankfully, he is also alive and well in Katakwi, Teso. More so, I agree with what Edwadi Kayondo wrote in his August 22 article titled Why was Buganda absent at Binaisa’s funeral?
Kayondo asked those still living to write down their experiences so that the future generations can learn from them.

He listed Cuthbert Obwangor, Adoko Nekyon, Mayanja Nkangi and Kintu Musoke. Save for Grace Ibingira, who gave me a signed copy of his Making of a Nation, none of the founding fathers of Uganda has written a book.

In his book, Ibingira wrote "history cannot be divorced from the future for it was history that gave birth to today, which will in turn bear the future." How true!
