TWO ministers in Bushenyi district have been defeated in the NRM party primary elections.

Health state minister Richard Nduhura lost his Igara East seat to Michael Mawanda Maranga, a prominent businessman in Kampala, while the disaster preparedness minister, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, lost his Igara West seat to the former secretary general for the Uganda Local Government Authority, Raphael Magezi.

In the three Igara East determinant sub-counties of Kyabugimbi, Kyeizoba and Bumbeire, provisional results indicated that Mawanda was last evening leading with 7,068, while Nduhura had 2,512. Yiyard Rushatuka was in third position with 1,469.

In Igara West, Magezi led with 14,406, while Kabwegyere polled 4,847 votes.
For the district Woman MP seat, Mary Karooro was leading with 25,151, while Mary Babeiha Kabesiimehad had 15,023 votes.

In Bushenyi municipality, last evening’s tally put Nasser Bassajjabalaba, the former youth MP for the western region in the lead with 1,561, followed by Franklin Katungwe with 972. The district chairman, Longino Inshanga Ndyanabo, was in the third position with 571 votes.

The district NRM registrar, Vicent Mbeera, declared Mawanda, Magezi, Nasser, Karooro and Willis as the leading candidates.

The district NRM chairperson, Hassan Bassajjabalaba, said: “The few polling stations which we have not yet received their results cannot influence the results.”

For the district chairmanship, Willis Bashasha, a former employee of Uganda Revenue Authority, was leading with 25,067, while the district speaker, Joram Tibasimwa, was trailing with 3,664.

In Nsiika district, Buhweju constituency, Ephraim Biraaro defeated the incumbent, Deus Bikwasizehi, while the district Woman MP seat was won by Joy Karisa after defeating Juliet Ntwirenabo.
