THE Ndorwa West NRM parliamentary candidate, Charles Musekuura, who lost in the party primaries to the incumbent, MP David Bahati, has petitioned the party electoral commission, calling for the cancellation of the results.
In a September 3 letter addressed to the chairperson of the NRM electoral commission, Musekuura said the entire electoral process was marred with irregularities.
He said he would contest as an independent in next year’s general elections if the party did not order for fresh party polls.
Musekuura’s petition contained letters of four NRM registrars representing four sub-counties of the constituency.
The registrars, Judith Ekyansimire of Kitumba sub-county, Patrick Ndireyo (Kamuganguzi), Denis Kamukama (Rubaya) and Bright Twinobusingye (Butanda), cited voter harassment and intimidation, tampering with voting materials, voting beyond the stated time and lack of enough voting materials. But Bahati said Musekuura should concede defeat.
“My brother Musekuura should concede defeat. He can try another time. He has lost out now.â€
Bahati said he was declared winner by the district returning officer Amos Rwashaija. “He (Musekuura) is free to contest as an independent, the people will still decide†Bahati added.
