ACCORDING to the symptoms you have described, you were suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI). Microorganisms called chlamydia may also cause UTIs in both men and women, and may be sexually transmitted.
Dear Doctor, I get sores for two or three days and they vanish. I also usually experience pain in my lower abdomen and lower back during sexual intercourse. Five months ago, a doctor tested my urine and said I had a urinary tract infection. It has been treated, but there is no change. I got a vaginal discharge and the doctor advised me to do a urine culture test. What can I do? Valesca
Dear Valesca ACCORDING to the symptoms you have described, you were suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI). Microorganisms called chlamydia may also cause UTIs in both men and women, and may be sexually transmitted.
The infection calls for treatment for both you and your partner. The first test you had was the urinalysis test, which examines for white and red blood cells and bacteria.
Some microbes, like chlamydia and mycoplasma can be detected only with special bacterial cultures.
If there is suspicion of a complicated infection or the symptoms do not respond to initial therapy, then a culture test of the urine is recommended.
