CONTROVERSIAL MP Theodore Sekikubo blocked the Ssembabule district NRM returning officer, Salim Kulembera, from releasing results in three polling stations in Lwemiyaga where his opponent, Patrick Nkalubo, was leading by over 200 votes late last evening.

Police chief Kale Kayihura last night said he had granted Sekikubo’s request to have the votes recounted in three villages. The MP had accused unnamed people of tampering with the results.

Kayihura has been in the district for three days to ensure law and order after earlier grassroots polls turned violent.

Accordingly, the Police deployed heavily in the area and used sniffer dogs to contain hooliganism.

Last evening, Sembabule returning officer, Kulembera and other candidates, however, had wanted the results to be read without those of Sekikubo, but Sekikubo stopped the process.

“How can you read out the results from Lwemiyaga when my issues have not been addressed? Let’s wait,” he said, sparking chaos.

In the Mawogola polls, the Kutesa camp maintained the lead over their opponents in the key sub-counties of Mateete and Lwebitakuli in Sembabule district.

Results from Mateete indicated that Kutesa was leading his main opponent, Isha Ntumwa, by 5,113 votes.
Dr. Elly Muhumuza was leading the Sembabule district council chairman, Herman Ssentongo, by 638 votes.

For the women seat, provisional results form Matete subcounty put Hanifa Kawoya in the lead with over 743 votes ahead of Joy Kabtasi. Mateete is a stronghold of Ssentongo, Ntumwa and Kabatsi.

In Lwebitakuli sub-county, the stronghold of Kutesa, he was leading by 10,766 votes over Ntumwa who had 3881 votes.

Vincent Kimbugwe was trailing with 1,177 votes. Muhumuza was also leading by 11,835 votes, while his opponent Ssentongo had 6,181 votes.

Kawoya was also maintaining the lead with 12,570 votes, while her competitor Kabatsi polled 5,259 votes.

Results from Mijwala, Lugusulu, Sembabule town council were yet to be announced by press time.
