Farm Management Tips

1 THE farm must be managed
It may be the owner or somebody else hired to do the job. But whoever it is, they have to be good managers if the farm prospects are to improve.

Many farms have collapsed because of poor management. Many beginning farmers who are also employed elsewhere and use managers to run their enterprises have often been frustrated.

2 Coordinate all activities

The farm manager has to ensure that all farm activities are well coordinated. They have to develop or implement plans depending on the organisation structure. In order to do this, a manager must have good leadership abilities, be creative and able to visualise the future needs of the farm customers. They also have to be good at managing both people and money.

3Focus on efficiency

In whatever they do, farm managers must focus on efficiency. They must approach every opportunity or problem in a manner that will ensure a positive outcome.

4Allocate resources efficiently

A competent farm manager must efficiently allocate scarce resources to solve immediate problems and at the same timebe ready to capture any opportunities that can make a difference.

5 Good communication

A good farm manager should be a good communicator. They should be able to pass on their important messages about the farm to his juniors without any ambiguity.

6 Targets

A good manager must have a list of tasks to be accomplished at a given time. They should have a time frame only within which to accomplish these tasks and what the responsibilities of each of the workers will be.

7 Good time management

They should above all be good time manager. Time management is a key aspect of management of a farm because a lot of farm activities depend on time. For example, if it is time to inseminate the animals or feed the fish in the pond, it has to be done there and then.
