Aggrieved NRM members in Jinja district have petitioned the party secretariat, seeking the removal from office of the party district administrative secretary, Michael Kasedde.
The resolution was reached during a meeting of the Jinja NRM executive at the party offices on Lubas Road on Friday. The petition, signed by the NRM chairman in the municipality, Moses Karangwa, demanded a repeat of the voting exercise.
The petitioners accused Kasedde of messing up the election, saying he allowed some candidates to carry out electoral malpractices. Karangwa disputed the results of the NRM flag-bearer for the Jinja mayorship, which he lost to businessman Magid Batambuze.
“Kasedde does not even deserve a transfer because the party will be sowing troubles in other areas. The party should just get rid of him completely,†said Julius Ziwa, the Jinja NRM general secretary. The candidates threatened to stand as independents if their grievances were not addressed.
Those who signed the petition include former Jinja mayor David Wakudumira, who contested to be the flag-bearer for the Kagoma parliamentary seat and lost to the incumbent, Mbagadhi Nkayi. Others were Moses Walyomu and Lawrence Talugende, who lost the contest for the Kagoma seat.
Ruth Tuma the incumbent Woman MP, who lost to district speaker Agnes Nabirye is considering standing as an independent in 2011.
However, Kasedde argued that those complaining had simply failed to understand the rules of the game, saying he had executed his duties diligently.
“In an election, there must be a winner and a loser,†he said.
