HYBRID chicken need a lot of care. The more you care for them, the more you earn.To keep 500 layers, you need a chicken shade of around 1,500 square feet since every chick needs at least 3square feet.

However, in the first two weeks after acquiring the chicks, they need less space since they have to be closer to each other to maintain heat, a key ingredient in their growth.

The shade may cost you less than sh500,000 if you use local materials like mud and wattle then iron sheets for roofing or between sh1m to sh2m if you use bricks and iron sheets.

The walls should be low at least five feet in height with the rest covered by wire mesh.

Before acquiring them, make sure they are immunised against diseases like Newcastle.

You need as many feeders and drinkers in the shade as possible to enable each of them drink and eat.

Grown up chicken need a lot of water. Scientists have proved that the cooler the environment, the more eggs layers produce. Farmers find problems feeding chicken which is understandable because feeds constitute at lest 70% of the poultry business budget.

However, there is a very simple formula. From day one to three weeks, each chick consumes just 1.5kgs.
This means that you multiply the number of chicken with 1.5kgs and divide it with 21 days (three weeks).

Layers then need layers marsh as the main ingredient.

A layer can produce an egg a day for between 53 to 55 weeks or more than 370 eggs in its life span or 13 egg trays! On top of keeping them cool with water, make sure there is no disruptive noise near the chicken houses because that also stops them from laying eggs.
