SHEILA Jasmine, the wife of Pastor John Mulinde, accused of running away with a city-based hair stylist, has said she had long separated with the clergyman.
Jasmine was dragged to Katwe Police Station on Monday with her lover Jeff Mugisha. She said in a statement she had split with Mulinde five years earlier, following an acrimonious affair. Thus, the pastor cannot be her husband, she said.
The lovers were picked up at dawn on Monday from Mugisha’s home in Kisasi suburb.
Mugisha runs JEPHI’s Beauty Spot on Jinja Road where Jasmine is a regular client.
According to the Katwe CID boss, Vincent Okurut, the woman denied knowledge of Mulinde. “She denied any knowledge of Pastor Mulinde,†the Katwe CID boss, Vincent Okurut, said yesterday.
Mulinde had earlier reported a case of threatening violnecne against Mugisha. Both Jasmine and Mugisha recorded statements over the allegded threats before being released on bond that very day.
Mulinde heads the Africa Prayer Mountain based in Sseguku and the founder of World Trumpet Centre in Kampala. He accused Mugisha of sending him death threats on his mobile phone. Mugisha denied this.
Mulinde and Jasmine, who have one child, were wedded at St. Paul’s Cathedral Namirembe four years by Bishop Samuel Balagadde Ssekadde following the death of Mulinde’s first wife, Prossy, in 2000. The reception was held at Speke Hotel Munyonyo. Several pastors, some from the US and Isreal, attended.
Talking to Bukedde, a New Vision sister paper yesterday, Ssekadde said the ceremony was organised by the office of the dean of the church. Pastor Joseph Sserwadda, the leader of the Born Again Faith Federation, said he attended the reception.
At the moment, Mulinde is in the United States on a private visit. Before he travelled, he hired security to watch over his wife whom he suspected of infidelity. The security operatives pitched camp near Mugisha’s residence where they picked up the couple, sources said.
But on Monday, Jasmine said the relationship was no more and that she and Mugisha even have a child, the Police said.
Mugisha told Bukedde that the accusations were faked to kill his business. “I and Sheila have decided not to respond to these malicious accusations,†he said.
The Police said pastor had not provided enough information and he could not shed more light since he is out of the country.
“Given the denial by the woman, we will need the pastor to substantiate his claims otherwise we cannot proceed with the case,†Okurut stated.
Mulinde is a renowned international evangelist and has traveled across the world in the last decade. His message is about repentance, holiness and revival.
By press time, details about Jasmine were scanty; however, those who know her said she lived in Mengo-Kisenyi, a downtown Kampala suburb, before marrying the pastor.
When she got saved, she attended Pastor David Kiganda’s Christianity Focus Centre Church, also in Kisenyi. She relocated to the Kibuye-based Prayer Palace Church, where she met Mulinde.
