It has been alleged that much of the immense wealth many western companies doing business in Africa have has been accumulated through illicit exploitative practices that leave our continent depleted of its natural resources with no marked improvement in the living standards of Africans.

In my view, this is the most serious form of corruption. And while western governments have been very vocal against corruption within Africa, they are conspicuously silent on the thieving western conglomerates.

If they are genuinely concerned about the socio-economic plight of ordinary Africans, they should demonstrate this by confiscating and repatriating back to Africa the ill-gotten monies their companies take away.

More specifically, UK and Canada should compel Heritage Oil Company to meet its tax obligation on its recent sale of its stake in the oil fields in western Uganda.

And in the spirit of pan Africanism, companies like Heritage should be blacklisted and prevented from doing business in Africa.
