THE State yesterday asked court to try in Luzira Upper Prison terror suspects accused of the July 11 Kampala twin bombings, rather than in an open court.

The principal state attorney, Joan Kagezi, told court that shifting the sessions from Nakawa Court to Luzira Upper Prison would protect the accused persons.

The media was yesterday barred from entering Luzira Upper Prison, where Nakawa Court convened its first session for the inmates in a confined security installation.

The session was presided over by Grade Two Magistrate Robert Imalingat, who represented the chief magistrate, Deo Sejjemba, who was away on official duty.

The suspects’ number has risen to 36 after two more were added on the charge sheet, and charged yesterday.

The suspects are alleged to have caused the death of 76 people at the Kyandondo Rugby Club and Ethiopian Village Restaurant in Kabalagala.

They also face charges of terrorism and attempted murder.
