Defiler jailed
THE High Court in Mukono has sentenced a 35-year-old man to 14 years imprisonment for defiling an eight-year-old girl. Appearing before Justice Vincent Zekurikize on Tuesday, Mohamed Mugerwa pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecution, led Barbara Kawuma, told court that Mugerwa defiled the victim on July 19, 2008, when her mother, Joseline Mundio, had gone for burial. When Mundio returned, she saw the girl limping and when she asked her what had happened, she said Mugerwa had taken her to a nearby unfinished building and defiled her.

Mundio reported the matter to area LCs who arrested Mugerwa.

Officer remanded
A court in Kayunga has remanded the district deputy NRM party registrar, Sinaani Baligeya, over concealment of public documents. He will re-appear in court on September 23 before Grade One Magistrate Caroline Kintu.

Prosecution said on September 10, Baligeya tampered with the NRM poll results for Bbaale county, declaring the incumbent, minister Sulaiman Madada, the winner. Madada’s opponent, George Nsamba Kumama, is said to have won the election, but the accused and others still at large, forged tallying sheets for Kayonza sub-county in favour of Madada.
