MOTOR-SPORT governing body, FMU has cleared Jinja rally winner Ponsiano Lwakataka of accusations that he cheated his way to victory a fortnight back.

The findings leading to the FMU clearing of Lwakataka were released at a competitions committee meeting last night. The same report was given to drivers, marshals and rally officials at a rally meeting in Kampala on Sunday.

Lwakataka sparked off suspicion when he clocked the quickest time in the Buwenge section despite his Subaru N8 running with a puncture.

Championship contenders Ronald Ssebuguzi and Jas Mangat protested Lwakataka’s stage time and indicated they had quit the title race.

It has been learnt that FMU vice president (rallying) Kisitu Mayanja found out from judges in the controversial section that Lwakataka genuinely won the stage.
