UGANDA'S officials who are already in New Delhi for the Commonwealth Games have cleared the team in Kampala to travel.

The advance team, led by the chef de mission Wilson Tumwine, said in a message to Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) yesterday that the situation in New Delhi is not as bad as it is being painted.

“There are some problems, but generally the situation is above average. We are looking forward to receiving our team,” Tumwine told the UOC.

UOC’s secretary Peninah Kabenge said the information from the advance team has given them more courage to send the team.

Kabenge said the first batch flies out on Sunday. Other members of the contingent will follow later in the week.

“Unless we get information from the organisers or the Commonwealth Games Federation that the event has been cancelled, Uganda will travel,” Kabenge said.

There were concerns over the athletes village and security and some country delayed their teams departure until the issues were sorted out.
