WHEN two acclaimed international artistes share one stage at a free concert; the result is usually thousands of spectators. That is exactly what happened when American gospel songstress, Nicole C. Mullen and Jamaican gospel dancehall sensation, Papa San, graced the Love Kampala Festival last Saturday at Kololo Airstrip.

As Nicole walked onto stage, vast applause ushered her in, almost equal to what she got during her maiden visit seven years ago when her songs Redeemer and When I Call on Jesus were on every one’s lips.

The all-eager crowd couldn’t help but drown in a whirlwind of emotion as the Grammy award-winning artiste gave them a taste of what she does best — sing.

She began by performing her newer songs and then later crossed the threshold to the all-time celebrated Redeemer. But what got us all worked up was singing the first few lines of the song in Luganda.

And when the man all the way from Jamaica hopped onto stage, clad in black denims, a black baseball cap, and black T-shirt; the mammoth youthful crowd came alive all over again as he opened with his 2006 hit, Stand Strong.

The crowd’s singing along to the songs in Jamaican patios confirmed how crazy Ugandans are about Caribbean music. He followed with a string of popular hits from years gone by like the reggae-flavoured Jesus Makes Me Smile Again, which all served to make his performance memorable.

After his performance followed an alter call where people were invited to accept Jesus into their lives, making the event not just fun but spiritually eventful.
