AS the competition for Miss Central Universities hots up in Kampala, students of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, have kicked off preparations for their prom night — a social event at which they will choose prom king and queen.
The ball which takes place on October 16 at the main campus in Nkozi, off Masaka Road, has attracted seven participates; four girls and three boys.
Those vying for prom queen are: Patricia Among, 21, a second year student of Ethics & Development Studies (EDS); Jessica Musanindanga, 20, a first year student of Business Administration & management (BAM); Phoebe Ajore, 21, a second year student of BAM and Anne Solome, a first year student of financial management. The guys are: Christopher Muweba, 21, a first year BAM student; Alex Kuhugira, 20, a first year EDS student and David Taylor, a first year BAM student.
Paul Birinawe, the campus affairs secretary, says the event will be no different from other campus beauty pageants by way of organisation, but the difference is that they use the American system where they call their pageant, prom night and their ministers, secretaries.
This prom night whose theme will be “Beauty by Environment†is meant to create awareness on how to protect the environment. It will be punctuated by a fashion show, speeches, performances from students and artistes, a cocktail, a dinner and crowned by a dance.
