THE national examinations body has almost doubled the number of scouts appointed to monitor national examinations.
Over 8,175 scouts have been hired, compared to about 5,000 last year. This is the highest number of scouts to be recruited in the history of national examinations in Uganda.
The move is meant to ensure that the examination process is not maimed with malpractice and mistakes. Over the years, cases of malpractice have gradually reduced.
The deputy executive secretary of the examinations body, Dan Odong, however, said they would not relax this year because the number of candidates has shot up compared to those of last year.
A total of 53,000 more candidates are expected to sit for the national examinations.
A scout, according to the examinations body, is a person of unquestionable integrity appointed to oversee the conduct of examinations.
The scout must have an appointment letter signed by the UNEB executive secretary.
A scout should also have a valid identity card to be presented where and when required and is appointed by the UNEB secretariat, examiners, tutors, senior teachers, retired educationists and any other persons of integrity as deemed by the appointing authority.
