UNIVERSITY students from Busoga region have been asked to carry out research on their culture and document it for the benefit of future generations.

Dr. Frank Nabwiso, a scholar and former MP for Kagoma county in Jinja district, noted that whereas Busoga boasts of a rich cultural heritage, some of it might disappear unless strategies are made to preserve it.

He was addressing members of the Joint Abasoga Nseete Students Association (JANSA) during their annual meeting at Busoga Square in Jinja on Sunday.

Nabwiso also asked the students from the 10 universities and eight tertiary institutions who attended the function to come up with a list of personalities in Busoga who have made a positive contribution to the area’s development.

He said he had compiled about 100 names.

“We need to know these people especially those that have not betrayed Busoga and Uganda at large, those that have not bowed down to intimidation, pressure or greed for the good of Busoga,” Nabwiso said

Samuel Nsadha, the president of JANSA, said the association aims at promoting the Busoga culture among Basoga students in institutions of higher learning.
