By Joseph Ssemutooke IN Uganda, it is not common to see men clad in white shoes — that is, leather footwear — not just sneakers/sports shoes. Whether it is because of the dust or mud during the rainy season, white shoes are not.
Wilson Road-based designer Micheal Mukwaya says there is no reason Ugandan men should shun white shoes. He says if anything, stylish men should wear them. Their elegance, he says, make the wearer stand out.
However, he is quick to warn that this is only if they are matched with the right clothing — which should not be hard since white shoes go with most colours.
“White has a unique quality, it gets everyone’s attention, and looks great with any outfit,†says Owor who works at Mr. Price. He says white shoes also portray confidence.
Mukwaya says if you love the look of white shoes, but are not sure you have the confidence to pull it off, opt for shoes that have white accents.
Alternatively, start with white sneakers/sports shoes before graduating to ordinary leather shoes.
Mukwaya says to pull of wearing white shoes, you should have flashes of white throughout your outfit, say a white belt, white tie, a white hat/cap and a white scarf.
Owor says those who are a bit more adventurous can pair the white shoes with dark outfits, say black pants or jeans.
Owor cautions that anyone intending to buy designer men’s white shoes should be ready to spend a little extra money.
