BADMINTON pulled back a win for Uganda, when they beat the Falklands in their third match on day two of the Commonwealth Games yesterday.

A tired Edwin Ekiring led from the start, winning his men’s singles match over Brownee in straight sets 21-6 21-7, before Margaret Nankabirwa also beat Sofia Arkhipkina in the women’s singles by the same margin.

The Uganda team got wins in the men’s doubles (Wilson Tukire / Brian Ssuuna), mixed doubles (Abraham Wogute / Gloria Najjuka) and the women’s doubles of Bridget Bangi and Nankabirwa.

“It all went down to the team playing well. We recovered fine after yesterday’s disaster,” said Mugabi of the team that lost to Canada and England by 5-0.

The win was a very good welcome to Uganda’s delegation of over 100, having seen all the other disciplines lose on the first day of the Games.
