MAKERERE University has reinstated its post graduate programme in education management and administration, the university academic registrar has said.

Speaking to New Vision yesterday, Alfred Masikye Namoah said the univerity senate reinstated the programme after approving its curriculum.

In August, the university suspended the programme over inadequate teaching staff, sending the students who had applied for it this year into panic.

However, Masikye explained that by the time the university suspended the course, the faculty was still reviewing it.

The move comes after 33 students sued the university for scrapping the programme. The students filed their petition recently at the High Court in Kampala through Lukwago and Company Advocates.

They were seeking a judicial review of the decision, saying the course should be re-instated to enable them complete their studies.

The petitioners also wanted to be paid damages for inconveniences caused to them. They also wanted and the university to meet the costs of the petition.

The students started lectures on August 14. They were pursuing academic awards in Masters of Arts in Higher Education Studies, Master of Education in Science Education and Master of Arts in Language Education.

Others were Master of Education in Curriculum Studies, Master of Education Foundations and Post-Graduate Diploma in Education.
