ANGRY residents of Kirumba village, Katwe-Butego division in Masaka municipality have attacked a businessman, accusing him of demolishing a house that belonged to Pokino.

Pokino was the title given to the Kabaka’s chief in charge of Buddu County.

The residents attacked Isa Mayanja, who had hired a group of youth to demolish the house that had been abandoned since the 1979 war.

“We asked him to stop removing the bricks and iron bars, which he is using to construct his latrine but he did not listen. Mayanja instead threatened to take us to the Police, accusing us of interference,” Kyagulanyi said.

The current deputy Pokino, Hajji Bbuulu Katale blamed Masaka district land board for leasing out the piece of land, well-knowing that it belonged to the Kabaka of Buganda.

He said he would task Mayanja to rebuild the house.

The residents had before the incident resolved to reconstruct it and establish a nursery school and day care centre to prevent criminals form using it as a hide out.
