SOME losers in the recent NRM party primaries in Isingiro district on Tuesday vowed to stand as independent candidates in next year’s general elections.
They included Dominic Katusiime Kashaki, an LC5 chairman, who lost to incumbent Ignatius Byaruhanga and Justine Ayebaziibwe Kasaija, who contested for district Woman MP and lost to incumbent Grace Byarugaba.
Dr. Posiano Mugyenyi, who contested for Isingiro South MP, and lost to Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama, the incumbent, also expressed interest in standing as an independent candidate.
This was during a meeting with the party poll probe team, headed by Alhaj Moses Kigongo, the party vice-chairman, at Isingiro district NRM headquarters in Kabingo town.
The losers said the elections were marred by rigging, violence, altering of results and intimidation.
They said they expected the team to give them the findings after lodging in their petitions.
Kigongo maintained that the party would not fund any independent candidate contesting against the official candidate.
