INSURANCE side NIC thrashed Mubende’s CBS Fans Club 63-18 to prolong their hold onto the national netball league trophy.

The victory at Nakivubo on Sunday put the record champions at 33 points ahead of Prisons (30) as the league concluded.

It was the 15th league victory since 1995, having surrendered the trophy once (1998) to Posta Uganda.

Florence Apako and Harriet Layet gave their team a 37-6 lead by halftime before goal shooter Aisha Namayanja’s 26 goals sealed NIC’s season’s unbeaten run.

It was only the spirited efforts by Stella Nabatanzi and Aurelia Nassimbwa that winless CBS could show as the insurers overrode them.

In the other games of the day, CBS lost to Kamwokya’s TLC 26-48 as Prisons consoled themselves with a 48-26 win over KCC.

Luzira based Prisons side and UPDF finished second and third respectively, the same positions they finished in in the 2009 season.

In the men’s category, Prisons were crowned champions.
