THE Basoga who hail from Bugabula B.B county in Kamuli district, have initiated a fundraising drive to solicit funds for the completion of Prince William Gabula Nadiope’s palace in Budhumbula village.

A total of sh40m in cash and pledges was collected during the ceremony. The money will be used for roofing the palace.

Before the ceremony on Saturday, the group which included the deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, special presidential adviser Moses Kizige, Bugabula North MP Gerald Menyha, Dr. David Kazungu and Eng. Patrick Batumbya cleaned the palace’s bushy compound.

Patrick Kyebakola, the Katukiro (prime minister) of Bugabula B.B chiefdom, said they had so far paid the contractors sh10m and agreed to pay the balance in installments

Kyebakola added that Kamuli district local council pledged sh10m towards the construction of the palace sometime back, but had not yet paid the money yet it’s headquarters are on Gabula’s land.

“I feel sad whenever I pass by Gabula’s palace while heading home in Mbulamuti. I do not look there sometimes because I know we have a debt to complete, ” Kadaga said.

She called upon the committee in charge of the project to organise luncheons with Basoga in Kampala and Jinja and create other means of raising funds like organising concerts.

The Kamuli district LC5 chairman, Stephen Mubiru, disclosed that the council had passed sh10m in the second quarter of the financial year for the project. The funds will be released this month.

Kadaga pledged sh2m, while Salaamu Musumba, the Forum for Democratic Change party eastern region vice-chairperson, contributed sh500,000.
